What is ITF-14?
ITF-14 is based on Interleaved 2 of 5 and is commonly used for trade items not intended to pass through retail point of sale, especially corrugated cases and cartons.
Why ITF-14 works well on cases
Its relatively simple bar structure can tolerate some printing variability and is often suitable for direct printing on corrugated packaging.
Bearer bars
ITF-14 is commonly shown with bearer bars around the symbol. These help reduce the impact of printing plate pressure and support reliable scanning.
ITF-14 vs GS1-128
ITF-14 normally carries only the GTIN. GS1-128 can carry a GTIN plus additional GS1 Application Identifier data such as lot, date or serial information.
Practical implementation advice
Barcode artwork that looks correct on screen can still fail after printing. Preserve quiet zones, avoid non-uniform scaling, choose an appropriate X-dimension or module size, and test the final printed symbol with the scanners and software used in the real workflow.
