Build representative samples
Use the actual printer, DPI, media, ribbon, speed and darkness planned for production. Include short and long data values because symbol size and density can change with content.
Validate encoded data
Decode the symbol and compare the exact returned data with the application requirement. For structured data, confirm separators, identifiers and check digits rather than relying only on the human-readable line.
Test the physical label
Apply labels to the real package or item. Test curves, seams, reflective surfaces and expected handling. If labels will encounter cold, heat, abrasion, moisture or chemicals, evaluate those conditions before approval.
Test the actual device population
Include representative scanners from receiving, production, shipping, mobile workflows and customer-facing locations. Confirm configuration as well as optical capability.
Verify where appropriate
A verifier provides standardized measurements that ordinary scanners do not. For compliance-driven or high-volume applications, verification should be part of qualification and ongoing quality control.
Freeze the approved configuration
Document printer settings, label/ribbon part numbers, software template revision, symbol dimensions and an approved sample. Change control makes future troubleshooting much faster.
